The price rating of Shepard Fairey's silkscreen prints

Shepard Fairey is one of the few artists who sells his works for less than he could afford. His silkscreen prints, about one per week is for sale on his website - 450 copies are published and are available for between $45 and $80. The price varies according to the number of artistic contributors to the work (sometimes another artist, sometimes a photographer...) and the purpose of the silkscreen printing (whether the profits are donated to an association or not) The day and time of the sale of the silkscreens are announced on the artist's website and social networks. On the day D at the announced time, the screen printing appears as available on the site's store. Wherever you are, if you have internet, the work is potentially purchasable, but it is preferable to have a very good connection and a powerful computer because the 450 works are purchased in the first 10 seconds... barely the sale finished, the first proposals of happy buyers often bloom on ebay for - at least. Triple the artist's selling price.

For screen prints, it is reasonable to say that for a work in good condition, prices fluctuate between::

2,000 and 10,000 $ for works before 1998

750 and 2'000 $ from 1999 to 2001

500 and 1'000 $ from 2002 to 2005

400 and 800 $ between 2005 and 2008

200 and 600 $ for works from 2009 to today

Of course, some works that are more in demand than others may escape these price ranges !
Concerning the original works, Fairey remains in the same spirit as for his silkscreen prints. If he always goes through third party galleries to organize the sale (even if he could totally free himself from this commission by offering his works directly on his site as he does with his silkscreen prints), he wants to control exactly the first value of his works whose prices vary.
For works on wood and metal, it is necessary to count around 3'000 $/Euros/CHF per piece, for rubylith from 3'500 $/Euros/CHF.
HPMs in 30 X 30 cm format in 8 copies are available for 1,500 $/Euros/CHF, the largest from 3,000 $/Euros/CHF and up to 8,000 $/Euros/CHF.
For works on canvas the prices start at 30'000 $/Euros/CHF for 106 cm x 76cm formats.
All these resale values by the galleries are those imposed by the artist! Then the second market is set up and it is not uncommon to see in auction houses these starting prices multiplied by three or more for iconic works.
